Pizza Restaurants

Pizza is defined as a dish of Italian origin consisting of a flat base of dough baked with a topping of tomato sauce and cheese, meat. It was invented in Greece and it is popular all over the world. Pizza is Greek in origin. Old Greeks covered their bread with oils, herbs and cheese. Pide is the word which spread to Turkey, Bulgaria, Croatia and from there to Serbia as pita and to Albania as pite and to Modern Hebrew pittah. Romans developed placenta, a sheet of dough topped with cheese and honey and flavored with bay leaves and the modern pizza originated in Italy as the Neapolitan pie with tomato and cheese was added in 1889. Queen Margherita of Italy was served a pizza resembling the colors of the white (mozzarella) Italian flag, red (tomato), and green (basil), in 1889, during her visit to Naples. This kind of pizza has been named after the Queen as Pizza Margherita. Throughout the years, pizza has been modified and changed into many different configurations. There are now different ways to bake the crust, decisions as to how much cheese and the type of different cheese, as well as different combinations of toppings. These variations have taken on names of their own depending on what toppings they have or where they originated from. Chicago Style pizza is a deep dish pizza which isn’‘t flexible and is baked in a deep pan making it good for stuffing with toppings under the cheese and/or marinara. This kind of pizza was said to be first made at Pizzeria Uno in 1843. New York Style pizza is a hand tossed pizza that has normal amounts of sauce and cheese, the cheese is flexible and is traditionally folded when eaten. Greek pizza is served mainly in New England and was popularized by Greek immigrants in the USA. It uses olive oil, and is baked in a pan in a pizza oven. It has feta cheese and sliced olives on it. California Style pizza is a Thai pizza made with barbeque sauce, goat cheese, spinach or shaved carrots as toppings. The California Pizza Kitchen restaurant chain is popular for selling this dish. Hawaiian pizza, despite not having been created in Hawaii, is a normal pizza with pineapple and ham as its toppings. This pizza is extremely popular in America, Australia and Sweden; and is gaining popularity in the rest of Europe. White pizza is a pizza that uses no tomato sauce and usually uses something like sour cream. The pizza use usually referred as Pizza Bianca in Rome. Pizza has been modified more to make different dishes that originated from pizza itself, some of these include the same ingredients as pizza or they have been changed to add new or similar ingredients. Alsatian tarte flambée is made in Germany and is a thin circular piece of dough covered with crème fraîche, (which is a cream), onions and bacon. Armenian pizza is a round piece of dough topped with a plethora of meat and/or vegetables. Provençal pissaladiere is like a normal pizza but with a really thick crust and topped with anchovies, olives and onions. Calzones and Stromboli is pizza dough rolled around the contents of a pizza (marinara, basil, cheese, etc.) it is sometimes referred to as a stuffed pizza. What we know as pizza, other people and cultures call it something else! Here are some examples. In New England they sometimes refer to them as a ‘‘pie''. In Serbia they call it ''Capi'', which comes from the Serbian word pica (pizza.) Pizza is sometimes referred to as ‘‘Za.’‘ In Iran they refer to pizza as an ‘‘elastic loaf’‘. In some restaurants they advertise selling a slice of the ‘‘wheel’‘ (pizza.) In Connecticut they refer to pizza as ‘‘apizza.’‘ Pizza spread to America, France, England and Spain; there it was little known until after World War II. While occupying Italian territories, many American and European soldiers tasted Pizza for the first time. It was love at first taste! Italian immigrants had been selling Pizzas in their American stores for some time, but it was the returning soldiers with a lust for the saucy delight that drew the Pizzas out of the quiet Italian neighbourhoods into the main stream of city life all over the continent. In fact, the square icilian Pizza which is so popular and was the forerunner of the now well-promoted "Party Pizza" is an American invention. Real Sicilian Pizza has no cheese or anchovies. Pizzas can be made either healthy or fatty, depending upon what you use for the toppings. They come in many forms such as Calzones (half the dough is topped then the other half folded over to form a large half-moon shaped Pizza Pocket, which is then baked). It also comes in various forms such as breads, rolls, pan pizza, stuffed crust pizza, thin crust Pizza and thick crust pizza, wholewheat crust, and bagel crust. Americans eat approximately 350 slices of pizza per second. And 36 percent of those pizza slices are pepperoni slices, making pepperoni the number one choice among pizza toppings in the United States. However, in India pickled ginger, minced mutton, and paneer cheese are the favourite toppings for pizza slices. In Japan, Mayo Jaga (a combination of mayonnaise, potato and bacon), eel and squid are the favourites. Green peas rock Brazilian pizza shops and Russians love red herring pizza. Pizza, like so many other foods, did not originate in the country for which it is now famous. Unless you have researched the subject, you, like so many people, probably always thought Pizza was strictly an Italian creation. The foundations for Pizza were originally laid by the early Greeks who first baked large, round and flat breads which they included with oil, herbs, spices and dates." Tomatoes were not discovered at that time or, very likely, they would have used them as we do today. Pizzas are the most favoured dish by most of the people around the world.
